After completing his doctoral research in structural biology at Yale University in the Department of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry, Dr. DeDecker continued his studies in England at the University of Cambridge with the Centre
for Protein Engineering.
Returning to the states, he was a research fellow at Harvard University with the Institute of Chemistry and Cell Biology before moving to the University of Colorado at Boulder as a director in the Molecular,
Cellular & Developmental Biology Department.
While studying Chemical & Biological Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder, Simon developed a passion for synthetic biology and its abundance of commercial applications.
As a member of the 2017 CU Boulder iGEM team, Simon began research on another project under the direction of Dr. DeDecker. This project would eventually become Seedling Biosystems.
